Join TIIKERIt HOCKEY SCHOOL
In the Tiikerit Hockey School, every child can safely take their first steps towards playing ice hockey. The hockey school is held at the Salmisaari Ice Rink in Helsinki.
Tiikerit Hockey School 2025-2026
For the 2025–2026 season, the hockey school is mainly aimed at girls and boys aged 4–6. However, the age range is not set in stone.
Here, children learn through play and games, with support and encouragement for their own individual development. We do not seek to find a single “right” way to do things, but rather help the child discover the most effective way for them. When it comes to developing skating skills, we believe in volume.
The hockey school follows the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s “Leijona Hockey School” concept, and the instructors have completed the Leijona Hockey School instructor training. The program is coordinated by the club’s Head of Coaching, Patrik “Pate” Johansson-Hongell, together with a group of enthusiastic assistant coaches.
Parents are also welcome to join the ice as assistant instructors. You will need skates, a helmet, and plenty of good spirit, as well as the ability to meet each child as they are and to be present without hurry.

Anna Ahlbom, Tiikeri parent since 2015Kiekko-Tiikerit has been like a second family for our child – the excellent coaching builds respect, team spirit, and humanity, not just athletes.
Kristiina Oja, former hockey momIt was easy for us to join Tiikerit because of the location, but we stayed because of the great atmosphere. Our son grew from a child into an adult, and from a player into a coach, in a familiar and encouraging group.
Einari Jalonen, Tiikeri dad since 2022As the parent of two young hockey players, it has been a joy to witness the growth journey that the Tiikerit coaches and community have made possible for our boys. Plenty of ice time, skilled coaching, convenient location, and good facilities make it possible to keep up the hobby in a busy everyday life. In the Tiikerit family, both children and adults feel at home!
Tuomas Valosaari, Head Coach, GrIFKKiekko-Tiikerit clearly demonstrate strong values that support the mental and physical development of children and young people into better people, movers, and athletes. I would gladly bring my own child to Kiekko-Tiikerit activities with a clear conscience, knowing that they would be in good guidance and involved in quality activities.
